I formed a super thick chunk of terra cotta clay into a rough cube and hollowed out a space for a tea light. During the drying and subsequent firing, the clay split. In the spirit of the Japanese practice of “kintsugi” … mending broken pots with lacquer and gold, I took this as an opportunity to use fine silver metal clay to fill in the cracks, with my thumbprint in metal clay on the side. A perfect blend of a modern form with rustic details.

Oxidation fired. Very much one-of-a-kind.
