tea and inspiration . . .

Oh my, I so rarely do this ... but this morning there is a lovely breeze as a front moves in and, even though the construction guys are in full swing and tend to holler at each other or just for the hell of it like a bunch of yahoos, I indulged myself and enjoyed my tea and scone and almonds on the front porch.  The mug and plate are by one of my favorite local potters, Julie Covington.  We've got a cupboard full of mugs, but this one remains my absolute favorite.  The magazine is a recent delicious indulgence, by the British County Living magazine, Modern Rustic.  Page after page makes me swoon with delight.  Especially nice as it has short features on makers and artisans and designers.  I got my copy at Barnes & Noble ... worth every dollar.

I did get an early start this morning staining my first four pinch pots.  Normally, I'd bisque the pots and then stain them.  But being the impatient type that I am with a bordering on ocd desire for immediate gratification, I'm staining them as greenware.  Thing about doing it this way, I'm not sure if I've got enough stain on them.  I figure less is better and prefer subtle coloration ... we'll see.

I sanded the surfaces a bit after these photos ... wanted to make sure there was plenty of white and the surface wasn't muddy.  I'm thinking with that nice breeze and warm temps, they're probably dry and ready to load into the kiln ... stay tuned for the results.
